Matthew 14:22-33: FIX YOUR EYES TODAY

When the manifestation of faith is truly in our lives, it cannot be explained. It doesn’t make any difference what we are facing, how big it is, or what it is — there is an absence of doubt. There’s not the slightest tinge of fear, concern, or doubt.

To break through the wall of unbelief, you must get your eyes off your circumstances and focus your faith upon God. As long as you continue to focus your eyes on your physical condition, your pain, the impossibilities of your condition, your financial problems, or the problems in your marriage, you will open the door to fear and doubt. As fear sets in, your faith will begin to waver and you will begin to doubt or question God. “I wonder if God has really heard me?” You will question His promises and wonder if He will do what He said.

Look at what happened to Peter when he stepped out of the boat into the stormy sea to walk on the water to Jesus. Peter said to Jesus:

“Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat; and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. (Matthew 14:28-29, NAS)

Peter, knowing that Jesus calling him to come to Him, stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water despite the waves churning and crashing around him. As long as Peter kept his eyes focused upon Christ, he was able to walk on water in the midst of the storm. The moment he began to look at his circumstances, however, fear entered his heart and he began to waver and doubt: “But seeing the wind, he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”(Matthew 14:30, NAS). What he saw with his natural eyes caused his faith to waver.

As Peter was sinking, Jesus reached out His hand and saved him. As he pulled Peter out of the water, He asked Peter, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31, NAS). Jesus asked, “Why did you doubt, Peter? I was standing before you to enable you to do the impossible. My power is unlimited, Peter. Why did you doubt?”

There are many Christians today like Peter. They receive a promise from God and launch out in faith upon that promise. As long as they keep their faith focused upon Christ and act upon His promise to them, they are able to do the impossible — to walk in faith and victory even in the midst of the fiercest storms, trials, or testings. But the moment they get their eyes upon their circumstances, they open themselves up to fear and doubt and their faith begins to waver. As a result, they fail to receive the fulfillment of God’s promises and the answers to their prayers and they are defeated.

Where are your eyes today? On Jesus or the storm of your circumstances?

Make this declaration:

I am taking my eyes off the storm of my circumstances today and fixing them on God. I will walk in faith and victory.
